Rep. Malliotakis’ Constituent Calls Out Congresswoman In New Ad For Enriching Herself By Voting To Keep Prescription Drug Costs High

Shane Morris – A Hard-Working, Church-Going PTA Mom Struggling To Afford Her Prescriptions – Featured In Latest Unrig Our Economy NYC Ad

July 6, 2022

Today, Unrig Our Economy NYC launched a new ad featuring Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis’ constituent Shane Morris – a health care worker and church-going PTA mom struggling to afford her prescriptions.

In the ad, Ms. Morris explains that the prescription she needs every month to survive costs ten times more than it used to. Making matters worse, Congresswoman Malliotakis – who invested personally in drug companies  – voted to keep prescription costs high.

See below for a transcript and to watch a copy of the “Ms. Morris”:

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis’ constituent Shane Morris:

I’m a PTA mom. I work nights. I teach seminary at my church. I’m just trying to provide for my family and serve my community. I need a prescription every month just to survive. The price is ten times more than it used to be. Congresswoman Malliotakis invested in drug companies and voted to keep your prescription costs high. She sided with big corporations over working people like me. Call Congresswoman Malliotakis. Tell her to vote for hard-working families, not big corporations.

“Unfortunately, Shane Morris’ story is all too common for New Yorkers these days, as the prices of prescriptions have gone up as much as ten times,” said Unrig Our Economy NYC Campaign Director Clare Cecil. “Even worse is that Congresswoman Malliotakis invested in drug companies, has taken thousands from big pharma, and voted to keep prescription costs high. So not only does Rep. Malliotakis get rewarded with campaign cash for enabling the industry to keep prescription drug costs high, but she also enriches herself personally from it.”

Today’s latest ad against Malliotakis – one of four vulnerable Republican members to be targeted by the national Unrig Our Economy campaign – is part of a $4.5 million national buy that seeks to hold representatives accountable for voting for wealthy corporations, like big pharma and the oil and gas industry, over their hardworking constituents. The campaign runs through the summer.
